The ArcGIS Online November Update lands on Monday, November 9, 2026. Esri will apply it automatically between 5:00 p.m. and midnight Pacific time. Most users will notice nothing at all. But if you still edit Web AppBuilder apps, run ArcGIS Workforce, or use Bing basemap keys, this update ends those workflows.

This guide lists everything that changes on November 9, what to do instead, and what does not break. Every fact below comes from Esri’s official update notice, checked live on the day of writing.

ArcGIS Online November Update: What Changes on November 9

Esri updates ArcGIS Online four times a year. The November 2026 update is a retirement-heavy one. Seven items leave service with this release, and the list also sets dates for bigger changes in 2027 and 2028.

The update window is Monday, November 9, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. PT. Esri says updates apply automatically with no expected downtime. You do not need to install anything, and your organization does not need to schedule maintenance.

1. What ends on November 9, 2026

These seven items retire or change with the November 2026 update:

What endsWhat it meansWhat to do instead
ArcGIS Web AppBuilder editingYou can no longer edit existing Web AppBuilder appsBuild new apps in ArcGIS Experience Builder
ArcGIS WorkforceThe mobile and web apps retireUse Tasks in ArcGIS Field Maps
Bing basemap keysBing keys can no longer be configuredSwitch to Esri basemaps
ArcGIS Notebooks Runtime version 10Notebooks on runtime 10 stop being supportedUpgrade your notebooks to a newer runtime
Branch Version Management widgetThe Experience Builder widget retiresMove to the new Branch Version Editing widget
Landscape variables in GeoEnrichmentThe variables leave the GeoEnrichment serviceReview any enrichment workflows that use them
Help docs in 5 languagesArabic, Italian, Korean, Polish and Portuguese (Brazil) help pages go awayUse the English documentation

The Web AppBuilder change needs care. It ends editing only. Your existing apps keep working in view mode after November 9. They stop being accessible in Q2 2027. That gives you months to rebuild, not days.

2. What does NOT break on November 9

Most ArcGIS Online users are unaffected. Map Viewer, hosted feature layers, StoryMaps, Dashboards, and ArcGIS Pro connections keep working as normal. The update causes no downtime, so maps and apps stay online through the window.

If you only view maps, share web layers, or run analysis in Map Viewer, you need to do nothing. The retirements touch specific tools, not the platform itself. 3. What comes next: the 2027 and 2028 timeline

Esri published the longer retirement calendar on the same notice. These dates matter if you plan migrations:

  • December 2026: demographic map layers and the legacy ArcGIS Urban metrics experience retire.
  • Q1 2027: Experience Builder custom widgets built with the Maps SDK for JavaScript, ArcGIS Notebooks Runtime 11, and Maps SDK widgets retire.
  • Q2 2027: ArcGIS Marketplace retires, and Web AppBuilder apps stop being accessible in ArcGIS Online. This is the hard end date for Web AppBuilder.
  • 2028: the Survey123 field app and Survey123 Connect (version 3.x) retire.
  • Ongoing: Legacy Basemaps are being retired in phases. They have been in Mature Support since 2020.

4. What to do before November 9

Run this quick check if your organization uses any of the retiring tools:

  • List your Web AppBuilder apps. Note which ones still get edits. Rebuild the active ones in Experience Builder before Q2 2027.
  • Move Workforce assignments now. Field Maps Tasks already covers the same field-workflow, and it is the supported replacement.
  • Check your notebooks. Any notebook pinned to runtime 10 needs a runtime upgrade before the update.
  • Remove Bing basemap keys. Replace them with Esri basemaps so no map breaks later.
  • Check the Branch Version Management widget. Any Experience Builder app using it must switch to the Branch Version Editing widget.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ArcGIS Online down on November 9, 2026?
No. Esri applies the update automatically between 5:00 p.m. and midnight PT with no expected downtime. Your maps and apps stay online.

Do my Web AppBuilder apps stop working on November 9?
No. Only editing ends on November 9. Existing apps stay viewable after that date. They stop being accessible in Q2 2027, so rebuild them in Experience Builder before then.

What replaces ArcGIS Workforce?
Tasks in ArcGIS Field Maps. It covers the same assignment and field-work workflows, and it works in ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5 and newer as well as ArcGIS Online.

Do I need to do anything if I only use Map Viewer and hosted layers?
No. The November 9 retirements touch Web AppBuilder, Workforce, Notebooks runtime 10, Bing keys, one widget, and some help pages. Core mapping, sharing, and analysis are unaffected.

What happens to Bing basemaps in ArcGIS Online?
Bing basemap keys can no longer be configured after the update. Switch your maps to Esri basemaps, which are built into ArcGIS Online.

When do Web AppBuilder apps stop working completely?
In Q2 2027. New apps have already been blocked since Q1 2026, editing ends with the November 2026 update, and access ends in Q2 2027.

The ArcGIS Online November Update is mostly a cleanup release. The platform itself does not change for most users, but the Web AppBuilder and Workforce retirements are real deadlines. If you use either tool, start the move to Experience Builder and Field Maps Tasks now, while the old apps still run. For the basics of the platform itself, our ArcGIS Online beginner guide covers Map Viewer, hosted layers, and sharing from scratch.
